Julie Roth Appointed President of KHIMA
Julie Roth (Healthcare - Overland Park) was appointed president of the Kansas Health Information Management Association (KHIMA) on July 1. This appointment is for a one-year term, during which she will direct the organization.
KHIMA is an organization committed to the quality of health information for the benefit of patients, providers, and other users of clinical data. It is a component state association of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), which has 50,000 members and was founded in 1928. The associations are both dedicated to the effective management of personal health information needed to deliver quality healthcare to the public, and are committed to advancing the HIM profession in an increasingly electronic and global environment through leadership in advocacy, education, certification, and lifelong learning.
Ms. Roth focuses her practice in health care law. Her most recent experience includes a faculty position as Clinical Assistant Professor in the University of Kansas Medical Center Department Of Health Information Management. In that role, Ms. Roth taught coursework in health care law, information law, health care delivery systems, reimbursement, privacy and compliance. In addition to teaching, Ms. Roth developed and authored grant proposals, all of which were funded.
The most recent study led by Ms. Roth involved evaluating the effectiveness of the HIPAA Transaction and Code Set in hospital settings. Ms. Roth has also participated in consulting projects dedicated to both medical privacy and billing practices. Ms. Roth served as the HIPAA Privacy Officer for a nursing and allied health faculty practice plan and is currently the co-chair for the Legal Work Group of the Kansas chapter of the Health Information Privacy and Security Collaboration (HISPC).
