Julie Roth, RHIA

Experience
Ms. Roth focuses her practice in health care law.  Her most recent experience includes a faculty position as Clinical Assistant Professor in the University of Kansas Medical Center Department Of Health Information Management.  In that role, Ms. Roth taught coursework in health care law, information law, health care delivery systems, reimbursement, privacy and compliance.  In addition to teaching, Ms. Roth developed and authored grant proposals, all of which were funded.  The most recent study, led by Ms. Roth, involved evaluating the effectiveness of the HIPAA Transaction and Code Set in hospital settings.  Ms. Roth has also participated in consulting projects dedicated to both medical privacy and billing practices.  Ms. Roth served as the HIPAA Privacy Officer for a nursing and allied health faculty practice plan and is currently the co-chair for the Legal Work Group of the Kansas chapter of the Health Information Privacy and Security Collaboration (HISPC).

Ms. Roth's analysis of privacy law has been published nationally and she has authored chapters on Evidence, Risk Management & Quality Improvement and Consent to Treatment for the Fundamentals of Law for Health Informatics and Information Management, due to be published in 2008.  Ms. Roth participates in both the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and the Kansas Health Information Management Association (KHIMA).  She is a Delegate and member of the Research Committee for AHIMA and will begin service as President of KHIMA in July, 2008.
