The Electric Company Health Care Webinar Series: Record Retention
The Lathrop & Gage Health Law Department is pleased to announce the second of our three-part webinar series, The Electric Company: Health Care Compliance in an Electronic World. Please join us for three webinars addressing issues concerning the management and retention of electronic health records. The series allows you to log on over lunch and learn how to best manage electronic records and protect your organization from liability. Each webinar begins at noon and lasts approximately 90 minutes.
July 23 – Record Retention We will review best practices with regard to retention of records in general, but specifically focus on retention issues for electronic health records. We will discuss the importance of proper retention processes in the event of litigation, and discuss how best to respond to discovery requests for electronic records.
August 20 – Choosing an Electronic Health Record We will discuss current Health Information Exchange (HIE) initiatives at both the national and state level. We will also describe how to select the best electronic health record (EHR) to meet the needs of physician offices and hospitals. Strategies for successfully implementing the EHR at all levels and issues related to maintaining privacy and security of the EHR will also be addressed.
June 25 - OIG Adventures: Federal Enforcement Efforts with regard to Electronic Records An overview of federal requirements relating to the use of electronic individually identifiable health information. We will examine recent enforcement efforts related to the HIPAA Security Rule and discuss strategies for preparing for government inquiries (presented previously).
The Electric Company features four members of Lathrop & Gage's experienced healthcare team — Martie Ross, Gail Edson Halterman, Jeff Ellis and Julie Roth. These attorneys have years of experience advising healthcare providers on regulatory and reimbursement issues. Each has lectured extensively on various healthcare legal issues. We are also pleased to include Jennifer Hannah, assistant department manager of the firm’s business litigation section, who has significant expertise on E-Discovery issues.
